What People are Saying
"We are extremely happy with the way our bookcases look. The quality of the work done and the service provided were exceptional, and the final product exceeded our expectations.
We had recently moved to the area, and in the process of downsizing, found we needed to use a set of bookcases that were quite dated and had seen better days. When researching options for redoing our wall unit on the internet, Pigment popped up as a resource, so I used their user-friendly on-line estimate request process to see if they could or would be able to meet our needs. I then stopped by their shop; when I saw the variety of pieces in progress and the quality of work being done on the pieces, I felt confident that our pieces would be in very good hands.
The staff at Pigment worked closely with me from my initial inquiry through completion, always responding to questions quickly and insuring total satisfaction. From the referral to a delivery service to get our pieces to and from the work shop to selection of paint color and finish, Sarah Grace was very helpful and detail-oriented, going out of her way to be sure that we would be happy with the finished product - and we certainly are!
We truly appreciate the caliber of service and craftsmanship that Pigment provided and enthusiastically recommend them!" - Lindy and Dan Mandy
"First I was thrilled to find you - it takes great skill and time to sand and paint several coats on furniture and you do a fabulous job. My chairs were not easy to paint - several parts and details - the paint - a dark gloss rich blue. They are perfect and I am thrilled - thank you so much. I have already recommended you to several friends and will continue to do so." -Penny Bosworth
"Pigment is a super creative new shop in Charlottesville. I stopped in the other day and checked out a bunch of cool furniture for very reasonable prices. It's a shop, but also a design-y consultation type business for color. Buy some furniture or bring your old crappy furniture in to get a make-over. There's also good art on the wall. yay, Pigment is finally a unique, creative business in Charlottesville! Can't wait to see where it goes from here."
"I hired Christy to do a color consultation on a house we bought. It was in desperate need of a make over, having never been updated since the 1970s. She patiently walked with me through each room as I explained my vision and helped me chose colors that worked in each room given the lighting, flooring, and other considerations. We took her advice and haven't regretted it! The house looks amazing! Not to mention, the consultation was really affordable." -Kristin T.
"Couldn't be happier about a consult that my wife and I just had with Christy for the painting of a series of connected rooms in our house. We were looking for something that would be bold yet livable and integrated, and she had terrific suggestions across the board. We'd happily work with Christy again." -Douglas F.
"We had a WONDERFUL experience with Pigment. We recently purchased our first home in CVille and knew right away that the kitchen had to be re-done. We wanted to add some fun details and decided on a painted wood floor. Pigment (and Christy) came highly recommended.
Upon reaching out, my email receive a response within 24 hours - I knew we were off to a good start. Christy came to our home that week to discuss options and provide creative direction. We spent some time going back and forth on designs and although I felt like I was being a bit too picky with all my changes and suggestions, Christy never made me feel that way. She continued to create new options and assure me that together we would create exactly what I was envisioning.
Long story short, she made it happen. It was such a lovely experience, both working with Christy and in the end getting exactly what we have hoped for; in fact right after she completed painting the wood floors, we began conversing about another project that would like to enroll her in. I highly recommend working with Pigment if you are looking to add a creative flair to your home. We were very impressed and grateful." -Kristen L.
“Working with Pigment was a satisfying experience because it was such a collaborative process. This was not a simple project. Pigment had already done a project for me which was stunning work, stripping two layers of paint off four kitchen chairs and re-doing them in a flawless matte black finish. I knew about Pigment because I wandered in one day when I was checking out some of the stores on Allied Street. And since I go to yoga classes at a studio on the street, I visited occasionally because I enjoyed the furniture I saw. When I decided I wanted to restore the old Chinese cabinet in the living room that was perfect for the space but beginning to show its centuries old age in worrisome cracks and peeling and fading, I contacted Pigment because of the care you had taken with the chairs. I knew I could talk with you and find out it if it would be possible to do anything to improve the cabinet or whether I needed to find something to replace it, which was not what I wanted to doing. When I stopped by and asked about it, you suggested I send some photos. Then we met and using the photos, we talked about some possibilities. As we talked, I kept modifying my ideas as I learned more about was possible. That process continued over the course of a few weeks. There was no pressure to hurry and make a quick decision. Those conversations and Pigment's expertise produced very satisfying results. The restored cabinet maintains its integrity as an old piece, but one whose character and artistic beauty is now apparent because the images are clean and clearly visible, the brass trim has a sheen without gaudiness and the gold border design is once again clearly visible but not insistently present. I am enjoying the piece again with the same sense of satisfaction I had when I first acquired it years ago. Thank you very much for working with me and for your expertise and artistry." -Susan Temple
“Thanks for all of your effort in helping us complete the work at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. The painting of all of the room vanities, kitchenettes, and powder room vanities was a lot of work. Taken all together (Pigment) painted components for 187 fancy hotel rooms. All on a tight schedule and with a fine finish! A great job! Thanks again.” - Chris, Project Manager at Gaston & Wyatt, LLC
"Christy- she's great! Where to begin, I've done a number of jobs with Christy and Pigment and I have found her services very helpful. I worked with Christy on the buildout for Junction restaurant. We started with color, but she ultimately steered my design process toward streamlined details that tempered the otherwise busy space. As far as client work goes, I am totally confident setting up a meeting for my customers. I know that Christy will find the colors that match their style and space. I am very happy to recommend Christy Baker and Pigment." - James Pearce, Renovation Contractor
"As a logo designer, I’ve collaborated with Christy to launch a brewery and a restaurant. She was extremely valuable to my logo design process. Together, we were able to envision the entire brand experience — the design of the logo and the space — and presented a cohesive brand to the client.” – Mike Ryan, Creative Director, Journey Group
“I recall my first visit to the Pigment studio at McIntire Plaza where I was blown away by the variety and scope of projects offered. I incorrectly assumed that large-scale painting projects were the sole focus of the business (such as the warehouse walls in The Gym), but was pleasantly surprised to see a wide array of services such as benches, dressers, sculptural décor, dining tables, etc. I was also drawn to the finishes on the furniture, such as leather handles and bright pops of color - giving the studio a proverbial Pinterest feel. The staff has always been exceptionally friendly, offering advice on color schemes and design elements therefore making Pigment the obvious choice for Woodard Properties’ mural projects. Communication with Christy and Charlie was seamless and we could not be happier with the results of both murals, the “Bubble Boy” painted on Circa (also in McIntire Plaza) and “GeoBuffalo,” painted on the building located at 1010 Wertland St. in Charlottesville. On behalf of Woodard Properties, I highly recommend Pigment.” - Sarah Daley, Woodard Properties
